YOGA
Come to the Redlands Family YMCA for a variety of Yoga classes designed to suit your unique lifestyle. Learn how to build mind/body awareness for a balanced and more connected you!
DEFINITIONS
Pranayama is loosely translated as prana or breath control. The ancient yogis developed many breathing techniques to maximize the benefits of prana. Pranayama is used in yoga as a separate practice to help clear and cleanse the body and mind. It is also used in preparation for meditation, and in asana, the practice of postures, to help maximize the benefits of the practice, and focus the mind.
Meditation is the state achieved from intense concentration on a single object until all other thoughts vanish and all that is left is an intense awareness of the object… Whether your goal is enlightenment, revelation, relaxation, simple clarity or low blood pressure, the process of mediation puts you in touch with something good and quietly profound.
Gentle Yoga This class is an introduction to Yoga designed to add gentle stretching to the traditional poses of Yoga.
Power Yoga is a strong and energizing style of “Flow Yoga” with more advanced poses being incorporated with an emphasis placed on strength and balance.
Iyengar Style Yoga This form of yoga utilizes props, such as belts and blocks as aids in performing postures emphasizing strength, stamina, flexibility and balance.
Hot Room Yoga ~ (In the style of Bikram)
This style of yoga is hot, hot, hot, so be prepared to sweat, sweat, sweat. In class, they crank the thermostat up high, then perform a series of 26 asanas designed to "scientifically" warm and stretch muscles, ligaments and tendons.
