Dr. D.L. Van Voorhis, DDS (fondly known as ‘Doc’) was a passionate supporter of youth and families in our community. He absolutely loved to experience crowds of kids enjoying something special. He was well known for sponsoring the YMCA Ice Cream Socials and the San Bernardino YMCA Christmas Parades.

“It is so important to expose them to the fun things in life. If I can give a kid a pony ride or an ice cream and see them smile, it’s all worth it,” said Doc.

Recently, he sponsored the YMCA concerts at the Redlands Bowl. He was a huge supporter of Camp Edwards and the Day Camp programs even offering field trips to his ranch in San Timoteo Canyon.

“I purchased this land for business, but then I started seeing it in a different light,” he said. “There were some fruit trees and some areas for livestock. I wanted to give children a taste of what life would be like on a ranch. We teach the kids to enjoy their environment, appreciate the animals and get some dirt on their shoes.”

His impact on the community, through the YMCA, has been deep and will last for a long time. He will be missed by many.
