Brittany Yanez knew that if she wanted to equip her children with a lifelong love of healthy living, it was important to introduce them to healthy living principles at an early age.

Not only did she need to give them the resources, she needed to lead by example.

Brittany and her family, consisting of Felicia (9), Rafael (7), Maya (5), and her husband, Rafael  joined the Y. Both her and her husband wanted to improve their family’s relationship with food and exercise as well as provide enriching programs for their kids.

“As parents, you always want to provide fun experiences for your kids. So when you find programs that are not only engaging your kids but teaching them strong values, it’s a dream come true,” shared Brittany.

However, the Yanez family worried that they wouldn’t be able to afford the quality programs they desired for each of their children. After receiving Financial Assistance, Brittany was able to involve her entire family in Y programs, including herself. Since January, Brittany has lost over 20 pounds by attending group exercises and applying the healthy living habits she’s learned in YMCA nutrition workshops.

“The Yanez family is great example of a family committed to living their healthiest, happiest lives,” shared Healthy Lifestyles Director, Jacqueline Leslie. “Whether it’s attending our cooking workshops or being consistent with exercising, Brittany leads by example and it shows.”

Now, Brittany sees her kids putting what they’ve learned into practice. Whether it’s stretching in the morning or asking to be a part of the Family Barre group exercise class, Brittany sees firsthand how the Y has instilled a love for healthy living in her children.

“The Y has truly transformed the way that my family functions,” shared Brittany. “At the Y, we’re focusing on the joy of movement and setting healthy habits that my children will carry into adulthood.”
