As a child, Ernesto was diagnosed with Polio.
As an adult, Ernesto suffers from Post Polio Syndrome. The condition brings chronic pain and discomfort for those that suffer from it, including Ernesto.
Ernesto first came to the Y as a CAPS employee. Wanting to better manage his pain and remain active, he utilized his free membership he received as a staff member. It didn’t take long for Ernesto to make strides in his swimming as he faithfully came each day.
“If I don’t exercise at the Y, I have to endure horrible pain. Being a part of the Y helps me function on a daily basis.”
It didn’t take long for Ernesto to find his stride and improve the symptoms of his condition. Within a few weeks, his pain and discomfort improved from his consistency with his exercise at the Y.
Now retired from the YMCA CAPS program, Ernesto finds comfort in visiting his Y family each day. Not only has his social life blossomed since joining our association, his ability to walk continues to improve as he strengthens his muscles.
