The Rocha Family came to the Y in hopes of finding a solution to daughter, Mia’s, abundance of energy and difficulty focusing.
From the beginning, Mia has always been very active and energetic throughout school but as she got older, it started to cause problems in her classes.
After searching online for youth programs, Ms. Rocha found the San Bernardino YMCA. Her family came to check out the classes and learn more information and was hooked. The same day of their tour, Ms. Rocha enrolled Mia in swim lessons so she can grow to become a strong, confident swimmer. From there, Mia began taking ballet, hip hop, and still practiced swim every day.
Ms. Rocha’s goal is to give her daughter the opportunity to take as many classes as possible so she can develop skills and make new friends.
Through the Y’s Financial Assistance program, she has made it possible.
The lessons she’s learned in the Y’s programs have helped her develop patience and balance her energy levels so she can improve her performance in school. Mia is a treasure at the San Bernardino YMCA. She lights up the room with her smile and is constantly having everyone in fits of laughter.
Meet Mia, one of the Y’s brightest stars! Coming to the San Bernardino Y to find a place for her to put her abundant energy to good use, Mia took as many classes as she possibly could, ranging from hip hop to aquatics. Last year, Mia was one of the recipients of the JC Penney shopping spree on behalf of JC Penney’s work with the y! We think the look of joy on her face speaks for herself.
