With four growing granddaughters, Melissa Aitken knew she needed a safe place for her family to learn and play.
When she first enrolled her granddaughters into the Y’s Preschool University, she had no idea that the Y would offer her family so many priceless opportunities for her grandchildren to learn and grow.
Melissa enrolled her granddaughters in the Y’s Safety Around Water program. Having a swimming pool at home, Melissa feared that the girls would not know how to protect themselves should an accident occur. Seeing how her granddaughters blossomed in other Y programs, Melissa knew that the Y would help the girls become stronger swimmers.
“Safety Around Water not only gave my grandchildren the confidence in the water but it gave me peace of mind to know that they know how to enjoy the water safely,” shared Melissa.
“Safety Around the Water gave me confidence, too.”
From Mattalynn, age 5, facing her fears and diving under the water to Layla, age 9, developing a passion for swimming, their experiences in Safety Around Water played an integral part in building up confident, capable kids in and out of the pool.
“The Y’s programs have made such a difference in the lives of my grandchildren. Now that they’re in school, I have the teachers telling me what great students they are and I know that is because of the Y’s childcare programs. At home, I see them swimming so confidently and I know that is from the lessons learned in Safety Around the Water,” she shared.
