Introducing Y Academies

New to Summer 2019, the Y will be offering specialty half-day camps during the summer. Available at all three branches, Y Academies provide in-depth experiences for kids in a few specialty areas. Whether they want to be outdoors and fishing or playing basketball, there’s a Y Academy for each kid!

Please note: Y Academies are 2 to 4-hour long programs. If additional care is needed beyond the half-day program, participants can join our Summer Day Camp for an additional fee of $17 for full-facility members and $20 for program members.

Y Academy Options

Our Fishing Academy will give kids a week of adventure! During their time in the Y’s Fishing Academy, they’ll not only learn the best practices, they’ll go on field trips to nearby fishing spots throughout the week.

Calling all gamers! Led by local gaming experts, this Y Academy features coding, skill based card games, role playing (LARPing) and more. Kids will have the chance to learn about coding in a fun, interactive environment.

This is held at the Redlands YMCA.

Get your head in the game! Sports Academy is an exciting week where kids will learn sport fundamentals and enjoy competitive scrimmages. Sports Academy will include basketball and soccer.

Engage your inner engineer this summer! The STEAM Academy features hands-on activities that introduce kids to important STEAM basics and principles.

Is transportation provided?

If you’d like to attend a Y Academy hosted at a different branch than your home branch, our staff can work with you to find transportation solutions.

This is subject to close due to available space in Y vehicles so please discuss this with Day Camp staff.

How does the Y Academy differ from your other summer camp options?

The Y Academy provides kids with a chance to dive into specialty areas of interest over the course of the week.  Each Academy will last for approximately 4 hours.

Those that would like to participate in Y Academy and require full-time care can elect to pay the drop in Day Camp fee of $17 for full facility members and $20 for program members/

How often is each academy offered?

Each Academy will be offered at each branch one time. They will rotate across all three locations.

YMCA Residential Camp in Angelus Oaks

The Y offers a traditional summer camp experience at our residential camp in Angelus Oaks. At Camp Edwards, campers will have the opportunity to canoe, rockclimb, shoot arrows at our archery range, and experience the joys of the great outdoors.

Camp Edwards has programs for incoming 1st to 12th graders.

A Full Day of Fun

The Y’s Day Camp provides a summer of fun! Offered at all three branches, your child can enjoy a summer that includes weekly field trips, learning opportunities through Summer Learning Loss Prevention, and a variety of games and crafts to fill their days.

Our Day Camp program invites incoming 1st through 10th graders to enjoy the program.
